Meet Khanh, Quirk's Content Marketing Intern

Hi! Could you introduce yourself?

Hi there! My name is Khanh and I’m the new content marketing intern at Quirk. I was born and raised in Vietnam, and came to the UK to study Business Management. Apart from marketing, I also enjoy trying out DIY trends and playing musical instruments!

What personality type did you get? Did you find the results to be accurate?

I’m a “Blissful”, which is quite accurate because money talk and financial education can seem overwhelming to me. It’s not that I don’t want to think about my money, but I really don’t know where and how to start.

What inspired you to join Quirk?

I think Quirk’s idea of money management tailored for each personality is so cool, as I think people are in need of a more personalised budgeting app. I joined Quirk with the hope that I could learn and experiment in different social media platforms and learn about healthier ways to manage and grow my finances, and spread that knowledge to more people my age.

What is your relationship with personal finance? - If applicable, how has that defined your current pursuits? What changes have you made that have helped? How has it changed over time?

I’m not very financially literate and when it comes to managing money, I always procrastinate until my overspending builds up and my balance gets close to zero! No courses at school nor any of my friends have really chatted with me about personal finance, so it’s been really hard to figure out what to do. Joining Quirk, I’ve started doing research on how to spend and track my money in a more mindful way.

What are some things that worked for you for maintaining balance and managing your spending?

I tried a budgeting app once but found it to be a hassle to put expenses into their correct categories. I prefer doing it the old fashioned way - a small notebook to track my spending, and at the end of a month I’ll see which categories I should cut down on. To prevent unnecessary shopping, I let all my items sit in the basket for 2 weeks before purchasing them, and unsubscribe from newsletters - with these tricks I’ve been able to save a lot of money!

Is there a specific financial goal you are working towards right now? What steps are you taking to achieve that goal?

I want to travel for some time after graduation. For that I’m trying to stop letting my spare cash sit in a current account and move it into a savings one. I have a side hustle where I sell clay sculptures and I’m also gaining knowledge online everyday so that I can start growing my money.

What do you most enjoy spending on, or is there any guilty pleasure you can share?

Probably concert tickets and band merch. I could eat instant noodles for a whole month to be able to afford a concert ticket for one of my favourite artists! Music just heals my soul.

How often do you check your finances?

Once a week so I can adjust my budget for the following week, or when I need to make a big purchase.

What’s your stack? (Accounts, credit cards, apps or other tools)

Current account with Monzo and of course the Quirk app!
